Waterlooville welcomes the finalists!

Waterlooville Golf Club President Steve Millett said: “Well done to all the teams who have made it through to the finals!

“Waterlooville is honoured to have been chosen to hold such a prestigious ladies’ event this year, and it is with great pleasure that we look forward to welcoming the finalists to our course in September to vie for the prestigious title of 2016 English Women’s County Champions.

“Waterlooville Golf course was founded in 1907 and was designed by the late, great Sir Henry Cotton. It is a beautiful 18-hole parkland course set in the heart of Hampshire with fast greens and tight fairways. It’s a true test of golf!”

Ladies’ Captain Allison Bolam added: “All our members are looking forward to a fantastic week of golf. We will be welcoming many spectators to our course from the surrounding local golf clubs and we also look forward to greeting those who are travelling from further afield to cheer on their teams.

“On behalf of everyone at Waterlooville, we look forward to seeing you all in September and wishing you an enjoyable and highly rewarding week.”

Messages from the County Captains:

Alison Taylor, Surrey Captain: “The Surrey team is thrilled to be representing the South Region in the finals and look forward to doing battle with the other regional winners. This is our first appearance in the finals since 2012.The Surrey team is a mix of youth and experience and each player is 100% committed to helping Surrey become National Champions for the first time since 1997. Waterlooville Golf Club is a super venue with welcoming members and I am sure they will give the players, officials and spectators a great experience on and off the course all week.”

Tracey Williamson, Norfolk Captain: “It is a great honour to be County Captain of the Norfolk Ladies, especially having qualified for the Finals for the first time since the mid-seventies. The team is a combination of youth (four players under 16) and experience. The phrase: ‘I’m old enough to be their mother,’ is in this case true, as my daughter is playing! We hope to surprise a few teams this week and prove that we aren’t here to make up the numbers. Our team has strength in depth and this is due to the hard work of our County Junior Organiser, Carol Delf , for driving forward Norfolk Girls golf during the past ten years. Bring it on!”

Dawn Clegg, Yorkshire Captain:
“Yorkshire are delighted to be representing the North Region at the English Women’s County Finals. The Yorkshire Team along with myself, President Heather Cawdry, Vice Captain Fran Dickson and Performance Manager Carole Waights are looking forward to our visit to Waterlooville Golf Club.

We would like to take this opportunity of thanking the Club and its Members who are involved with the organisation of the Competition and do appreciate their efforts on our behalf.
