"Can I pay for my membership monthly?"

Yes, absolutely. We understand the value of flexible payments. You can spread the cost of your subscription over the year by using 'Howdidipay Later'. It’s a simple online application with an instant decision, making the investment in your lifestyle more manageable.

"What if I don't have an official handicap?"

That’s no barrier at all. We make it incredibly simple. You just need to play three 18-hole rounds with an existing member who can mark your cards. If you don't know anyone when you join, we will be absolutely delighted to introduce you to a playing partner or get you involved in one of our many friendly roll-up groups to get your cards marked.

"What happens if I don't know anybody at the club?"

This is a common concern, and it's one we have completely solved. You don't need to know a single person to feel at home here. Our club is famous for its friendly "roll-up" groups—informal games that you will be very welcome to join. As part of your induction with the Club Captain, you will receive a welcome pack containing a list of these roll-ups, making it incredibly easy to jump straight into the social life of the club and meet new people from day one.

"Can I play at any other courses with my membership?"

Yes! This is one of the most powerful and valuable benefits of your membership. We are delighted to have partnered with around 20 other golf clubs to offer our members an amazing reciprocal golf programme. As a member, you can book one complimentary fourball each week (Monday to Friday) at every single one of these clubs. It's an extraordinary opportunity to explore a huge network of courses at no extra cost, offering you unparalleled variety and value.

"Can my golf membership be a business expense?"

This is a very shrewd question we hear often from our self-employed and business-owning members. While Waterlooville Golf Club cannot provide financial advice, many members use our friendly clubhouse and professional meeting facilities for networking and entertaining clients. We strongly recommend speaking with your accountant to discover if you can claim your membership as a legitimate business expense or tax write-off.

"Will I get a County Card?"

Yes, absolutely! Your membership includes your affiliation to Hampshire Golf. This unlocks another huge benefit: your digital County Card. Through the igCounty App, you will gain access to discounted green fees at over 1,300 golf courses across England. It’s a powerful perk that opens the door to incredible variety, all as part of your home club membership.

"Do you offer golf lessons at the Club?"

Yes, absolutely. We are fully committed to helping you play your best golf. We have a fantastic team of qualified PGA Professionals right here at the club, ready to provide expert golf coaching on an individual or group basis. Our tuition is led by our Head PGA Professional, James Crawford. Whether you need to fine-tune your skills on our practice ground or need personalised advice, please reach out to James or his team to learn more and start lowering that handicap.

"I could probably do with getting new clubs. Can I do that at the Club?"

Absolutely! Our fully stocked pro shop offers a full retail service with most major brands stocked or accessible. But the real secret to better golf isn't just buying new clubs—it's buying the right clubs. Our Head PGA Professional offers a professional custom fitting service in our swing studio to find the perfect clubs for your unique swing. It’s a sure-fire way to invest in your game and see real results on the course.

"Do you have sections for different groups, like Ladies or Seniors?"

Yes, we have a number of very active and welcoming sections within the club, ensuring you can always find a game with like-minded people.

The Seniors Section: Open to male members aged 55 and over, this is a highly active group with a full calendar of matches against other clubs from February to October, plus numerous competitions throughout the entire year.

The Ladies Section: Our ladies section has an action-packed diary with competitions held most Tuesdays and Sundays. They also compete in friendly matches and prestigious team events like the Hayling Trophy and Stoneham Cup, and as one member puts it, they are like an "extended family!"

"Do you run many club competitions?"

Yes, there are lots of opportunities to play competitively and make your mark. The men's section has competitions most weekends, run over both Saturday and Sunday. The Seniors and Ladies also have competitions most weeks. With numerous honours boards and historic trophies up for grabs, you have a genuine opportunity to secure your place in the Club's history.

"Do I need to book tee times?"

For the majority of the day, no. We use a traditional ball chute system which our members love for its simplicity and flexibility. Simply place your ball in the chute when your group is ready to play, and when it reaches the front, it's your turn to tee off. For off-peak times, we do offer a small block of bookable tee times, and as a member, you get a 14-day advanced booking window, giving you priority over visitors who can only book up to 10 days in advance.

What is the dress code for playing on the course?

The club upholds a high standard of dress.

  • Men: Must wear collared or high-neck shirts with sleeves, tucked into tailored trousers or shorts.
  • Ladies: May wear sleeveless tops if they have a collar or high neck.
  • Not Permitted: Denim jeans, t-shirts, football or rugby shirts, and training shoes are not allowed on the course.
  • Footwear: Golf shoes must be worn by all players (except juniors under 14).
  • Headwear: Peaked caps must be worn with the peak facing forwards.

Can I bring guests to play a round of golf?

Yes, playing members may introduce guests. A member can bring up to three guests on weekdays and after 12 pm on weekends. Before noon on a Saturday or Sunday, a member may introduce one guest. The introducing member is required to play with their guests, and any single guest cannot be introduced more than twelve times a year.

Are there practice facilities available?

Yes, the club has a designated practice area. Practicing on the golf course, including playing more than one ball, is not permitted. The Club Professional has priority on the practice ground when conducting lessons.

What is the dress code in the clubhouse?

A smart and casual standard of dress is required at all times. Ripped jeans and tee shirts with potentially offensive slogans are not permitted. Wet or muddy golf clothes must be changed, and hats are not to be worn inside. Golf shoes are only permitted in the locker rooms and the Snug Bar.

What is the club's policy on mobile phones?

Mobile phones and tablets are welcome but must be used respectfully. They can be used in silent mode anywhere on club property for non-verbal communication like emails, messaging, and inputting scores. Voice calls and watching videos are restricted to the car parks and designated areas in the clubhouse, such as the Snug/Spike bar and locker rooms.

Are children allowed at the club?

Children under 12 who are not Junior Members may only go on the course if they are a guest of an Adult or Junior member. In the clubhouse, children must be kept under constant supervision and are not permitted to wander into the locker rooms or onto the practice putting green.

Can I bring my dog to the club?

Dogs are not permitted on the golf course or within the club premises. An exception is made for Guide Dogs, which are allowed in the clubhouse.

Joining Made Simple: Your 8-Step Welcome Journey

We've refined our process to ensure it's friendly, straightforward, and focused on one thing: welcoming you into our community.

Step 1: Your Application

Complete the application form and return it to the General Manager to get the ball rolling. Don't worry if you don't know a Proposer or Seconder yet; we have a simple pathway for that.

Step 2: Your Member Profile

We'll ask for a quick passport-style headshot for your member record and a form of ID for verification, as advised by England Golf.

Step 3: A Welcome Chat

You’ll be invited for an informal meeting with our General Manager to review your application and answer any questions you may have about the club.

Step 4: A Friendly Introduction

With your permission, your name and photo will be displayed on the club noticeboard. This is a club tradition that helps our current members recognise and extend a warm welcome to you when they see you around the clubhouse.

Step 5: Your "Welcome Round"

The best step! You’ll be invited to play a relaxed round with a few of our members. This is not a formal interview. It's a chance to experience the course, our friendly atmosphere, and ask plenty of questions in a pressure-free environment.

Step 6: Joining the Waiting Pool

Following your welcome round, and assuming there have been no issues, we will confirm your acceptance and invite you to join our waiting pool if no vacancies are currently available.
